During a review meeting with representatives of the European Commission, it has been decided that the pilot line service would keep running under the lead of the Fraunhofer Institute for Organic Electronics, Electron Beam and Plasma Technology FEP. The OLED pilot line service LYTEUS has delivered the world's longest OLED strip manufactured in a roll-to-roll process and more than ten different demonstrators have been built in cooperation with the partners of the consortium, including the world's largest OLED demonstrator measuring 30×180cm.
Dimmable OLEDs with variable colours offer almost unlimited creative freedom from automotive or security applications to general lighting for interior design, furniture, aviation or architecture. One of the demonstrators consisted in a flexible OLED integrated into a motorcycle jacket for increased rider visibility and road safety.
"With the establishment of the LYTEUS pilot line service, we have taken a major step forward in the development of economical manufacturing processes for flexible OLEDs. With LYTEUS, we can bridge the gap between research and mass production and offer custom OLED solutions", commented Claudia Keibler-Willner, Project Manager and Head of Department Sheet-to-Sheet Organic Technology at Fraunhofer FEP.
Consortium partners include European research institutes Fraunhofer FEP, VTT, Holst Centre/TNO and CPI together with industrial partners Audi, REHAU, Pilkington and EMDE.
