In a press release on its website, LED manufacturer Nichia Corporation warns its customers that a large number of counterfeit Nichia laser diode (LD) products have entered the market; much of this volume having been bought or sold and traded in China.

According to its own investigation, one example the company mentions is a counterfeit laser diode described as part number “NDB7B77”, which is being sold on the internet as a genuine Nichia LD model despite the fact that number is not a legitimate Nichia LD part number and was not designed nor produced by Nichia.

The company warns customers should be aware that such counterfeit LDs have not undergone its rigorous quality inspections and may not meet Nichia’s quality standards, having negative consequences on the end applications.

Nichia declines any responsibility for any loss or damage resulting from the use of counterfeit Nichia products and advises its customers to not purchase or use counterfeit Nichia LD products under any circumstances.
