JOLED begins commercial shipment of printed OLED panels

December 13, 2017 // By Julien Happich
A joint venture from Sony and Panasonic, JOLED Inc. is leveraging its proprietary RGB OLED printing technology to commercialize what the company believes to be the world’s first organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels produced using an RGB printing process.

First product shipments began early December, with a 21.6-inch 4K high-resolution (3,840(RGB) x 2,160 pixels) OLED panel, already selected for use in medical monitors.

Just about three years old, the Japanese company aims to gradually ship the product for use in a variety of applications. The 204dpi self-illuminating OLED panels are only 1.3mm thick, they boast a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 with a peak luminance of 350cd/m 2, combining high contrast with high colour reproducibility and a fast response rate.
